Goverlan Overview

Goverlan and WMIX

WMIX allows you to perform WMI related actions on remote machines and generate reports. However, WMIX has been designed to work on one machine at a time. In addition, using WMI raw functions can sometimes be painstaking to perform. Goverlan allows you to perform remote administrative tasks in multiple and powerful ways using proprietary, WMI, and WMI assisted technologies. Since Goverlan has been designed for the enterprise, you can remotely administer a set of machines  just as easily as you would a single machine.

The following tables displays the additional WMI capabilities offered by Goverlan. Note:This table only displays WMI related capabilities. Goverlan also provides a large set of non-WMI remote administration features.

Remote Administration

Administration using WMI.

Administration using Assisted-WMI.
Assisted WMI are features which uses WMI in the background but it is hidden from the end user. All WMI
technicalities are automatically taken care of by Goverlan.

For instance, MSI package management (install, repair, etc.) is unpractical when using WMI since it requires a lot of security configurations. Goverlan provides a full set of MSI package management features which automate all configurations.

Administration using non-WMI technologies
Goverlan includes a large set of remote administration features which uses technologies unrelated to WMI. For instance,  Goverlan allows you to perform Active Directory account administration, remotely control machines, open group discussions and more. Combining these powerful features with WMI's extensive set of features results in the ultimate administrator's tool kit.

Report Generation

Generate reports on a single machine.

Generate reports on a set of machines.
WMIX allows you to generate reports on multiple machines, but this feature is only designed for small scopes. Goverlan allows you to generate reports at the enterprise level using multi-threaded technology. This means that you can easily generate WMI reports on thousands of machines.

limited

Report output in HTML format.
Goverlan includes two HTML report formats. One format generates one page per machine (for inventory reports) and the other format generates one page per information category (this format displays the properties of all machines in a table for side by side comparisons).

Report output in Text format.

Report output in XML format.
Goverlan generates all reports in XML output and then allows you to convert the result set to text or HTML. The XML output can be imported into Excel or a database.

Configure conditions to detect objects with a particular configuration.
Goverlan allows you to configure conditions on any property. This allows you to generate reports of machines with a particular configuration.
