Note: Goverlan v6 used three port numbers for communication. This has been reduced to only ONE port in Goverlan v7.
If you are trying to remotely administer machines which are behind a firewall, the following considerations apply:
The communication protocol used between Goverlan and the Goverlan client agents is Windows Socket through TCP/IP. The only TCP/IP port used is 21159. This port number can be changed. See Modifying the Communication Port.
If your firewall blocks pings, you need to turn off the Always test connectivity before querying a machine option under Network Settings (see Options.)
The required Windows Firewall configuration settings are automatically set as you install the Goverlan agents. In fact, each time the Goverlan Service starts, it checks and updates the Windows Firewall with the required port settings for Goverlan Client/Server communications. The Firewall settings are removed if the Goverlan Agents are un-installed.
If you do not wish Goverlan to automatically configure the Windows Firewall, modify the 'Automatically Configure Windows Firewall' group policy settings. For more information on this setting, see Distributing Settings Using a Group Policy Object.
