Goverlan version 6.7x

Global New Features and Improvements

Microsoft Windows Vista Support
The Goverlan Remote Administration Suite including all of its features (Goverlan Remote Control, WMIX and Scope Actions) now fully supports the Microsoft Vista operating system.

Remote Administration

  Automatic Windows Firewall Configuration
The Windows Firewall Settings are automatically configured by the Goverlan Service when it starts and are automatically removed when the agents are un-installed. This feature can be disabled through group policy.
  Improvements
  • Improved Printers Management
  • Improved Drive Mappings Management
  • Improved Environment Variables Management
  • Improved Task Manager

Goverlan version 6.5

Remote Administration

Active Directory Forests Selector
Administer multiple Active Directory Forests easily using the Goverlan Forest Selector. This feature allows you to switch from one Active Directory Forest to another from within Goverlan.

Inheritable Domain Credentials
Domain Alternate Credentials can now be configured to be inherited by all computers which belong to the domain
. This feature allows you to specify a single set of alternate credentials for all machines within a domain.
  DFS Share Detection
Added support for DFS shares during the
detection of user's logged-in workstations.

Remote Control

Greater Performance
Color Reduction Algorithms
- 4 new color reduction algorithms have been implemented. These algorithms drastically improve performance over medium and slow link connections.

Force Update - The Force Screen Update option has been improved for greater speed and less CPU usage on the remote machine.

This option no longer automatically increases the server process priority. To increase the server process priority, use the Settings >> Raise server process priority option.

This option no longer automatically reduces the refresh rate. To reduce the refresh rate, use the Settings >> Reduce screen refresh rate option.

New View Mode: Scale to Fit - Aspect Ratio
This view mode scales the remote screen to fit the size of the window while maintaining the screen's aspect ratio. This results in the largest viewing area with no screen distortion.
Improvements
New Connection Statistic window - We have re-created the Connection Statistics window to provide more accurate data transfer statistics.

New Group Policy Settings - The 'Force Observe Only' and 'Disable Chat Feature' settings have been added. Enabling 'Force Observe Only' enforces all remote control sessions to be Observe Only with no keyboard and mouse control. Enabling the 'Disable Chat Feature' removes the Chat feature from the interface.

Improved mouse and keyboard transfer - The mouse wheel button is now working properly during a remote control session. We have also fixed miscellaneous issues, for example, pressing the F1 key is now properly transferred to the remote machine.

Goverlan version 6

Global New Features and Improvements

Office 2003 Style Interface ( screenshot )
The Goverlan feel and look has been entirely revamped with an Office 2003 style interface. Our goal is to have end-users feel familiar with Goverlan the first time they use it.

Full WMI Integration ( more info )
Windows® Management Instrumentation (WMI) is a powerful Microsoft technology. Using WMI technology, virtually every bit of information on a machine's software or hardware can be queried and managed remotely.
Alternate Credentials
All parts of Goverlan, including the Remote Control Feature and WMIX are equipped with the Alternate Credentials Manager. This means that Goverlan automatically prompts you for alternate credentials if an action results in an Access Is Denied. The credentials can be saved in an encrypted format for subsequent reuse.

Real-time Administration & Diagnostic

Group Chat
Open a live chat session with one or more people.
MSI Package Management
Install, un-install and repair MSI packages on your remote machines.
Task Manager ( more info )
The Task Manager allows you to view and manage all running processes on a remote machine. It also shows performance monitoring of CPU, MEMORY and NETWORK usage. Additionally, it allows you to view and manage the configured Startup Programs on a remote machine.
  IP Scanner
Scan IP segments for machine names and MAC addresses. The IP Scanner can also be used to select machines in the chat, send popup and scope action features.
Custom Actions ( more info )
Define a Custom Action by configuring an arbitrary number of report, set and execute actions. Once a Custom Action is configured, you can execute it at any time for a particular machine or user.
  Computer Favorites
This section allows you to access stand-alone or workgroup computers and servers and remotely administer them.
  Improved Send Popup
The new Send Popup Message feature allows you to choose whether you want to use the Goverlan Messenger Service or the Microsoft Messenger Service. Using the Goverlan Messenger Service results in a better presentation on the client side.
Improved Active Directory Search ( more info )
Quickly and easily search for active directory objects and set the focus on them in the Goverlan interface. The Advanced Search feature allows you to specify search criteria.
  Improved Computer System Information
Query your machine's identity information (serial number, model, manufacturer, etc.). View the Goverlan Remote Control session history.

Scope Actions

Scheduler
Schedule any scope action to run periodically, even if you are not logged-in. Configure a scheduled scope action to automatically generate the report in the desired format. Receive notification emails upon execution, including execution statistics and/or console log and/or report.
New HTML Reporting Format  ( more info )
View your scope action reports in Report Mode. This new format presents you with the object's properties in a table format. Very useful for side by side comparisons of objects' attributes.
  New Scope Selector
You can now define your users/computers/groups scope from multiple containers. For computer objects, you can also define the scope using external data sources such as the IP Scanner or a CSV import file.

A scope can also be defined
by importing a Scope Data File which was exported from a previous scope definition or from the result set of another scope action.
  Improved Condition and Action Selector
Goverlan 6 allows you to select a condition or execute an action multiple times, resulting in a more flexible and powerful scope action. In addition, you can configure the execution order for the actions to be executed.
Full WMI Integration
Use the full potential of WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) in a scope action, without writing a single line of script. WMI has been fully integrated in Goverlan. You configure any of the report, set or execute methods for any WMI object in a scope action.
Registry Management
Add, modify or remove registry keys or values, or simply apply a preconfigured registry modification file (.reg) on all your machines.
File System Management
Copy, move or delete local files. Copy, move, delete or create local directories. Transfer files and directories from your local machines to your remote machines.
MSI Package Management
Install, un-install or repair MSI packages on your machines.
  Computer Identity Attribute Set
A full set of asset management attributes have been added in Goverlan 6. You can now report on your machine's serial number, SKU number, model and manufacturer.
Running Processes + Startup Program Attribute Sets
An extended set of attributes have been added for running processes including their binary path, file version and company information. You can also report on the configured startup programs.

Remote Control

Multi-tabs Manager ( screenshot )
The multi-tabs manager allows you to remotely control multiple machines simultaneously and organize your remote control sessions within a single interface.
  Favorites Section
Section where you can enter your most frequently remote controlled machine names.
Wake On LAN - Send Popup Message - Chat.
These Goverlan features have been added to the remote control interface for easy access.

New Tools

WMIX ( more info )
Goverlan v6 includes a new tool in its product suite: WMIX (W.M.I. Explorer). WMIX is a GUI based implementation of WMI technology, with no scripting or programming necessary. WMIX is the easiest and most powerful way to access WMI's management features and to explore WMI's information repository. WMIX provides access to virtually every piece of information which is available on a machine, from the most basic object such as it's processes and operating system, to the most advanced object such as the settings of the temperature probes on the motherboard.
Goverlan Command Line Utility
Every Goverlan feature is now accessible at the command prompt using the Goverlan Command Line Utility (GovCmdLine.exe). This utility allows you to report on any type of information in a XML or Text format. You can also use it to execute any action which is available through Goverlan. Great for scripting!

To learn more about this utility, type 'GovCmdLine /HELP | MORE' at the command prompt.
